Dead by Sunrise is a necessary album in Chester Bennington's career. It was about time that he went solo and escaped the electronic over-produced sound of Linkin Park's alternative Rock.Chester's voice never made a huge impact on me, I only knew him as the guy that sang the catchy choruses and verses, never as that guy with the awesome voice as I came to know singers like Axl Rose, Myles Kennedy or Robert Plant!
Its easy to tell that Chester has a good voice and he has good breathing techniques but not much vocal variety. The album shows him as a good singer but not the excellent singer i expected.
Its nothing new and nothing fancy, its just as we heard him in Linkin Park. The band he played with must be given props along with a slap, both for underhanded imitation.
The best song on the album was Give Me Your Name which sounded a lot like Loving The Alien by Velvet Revolver. The guitar work on this track was also worthy of slash but a longer solo would have made the difference.
The songs nonetheless are good, they tend to bash you over the head just like Rock songs are supposed to, and don't lose your attention.
The synth work is good, not over the top, just enough to fill the spaces left by the instruments.
Its a bittersweet audio experience but nothing that makes you WOW or throw cornas in the air.
The biggest peeve was that it was dangerously close to looking like a Linkin Park album.
If Chester Bennington wants to go as a solo Rocker, he needs to separate Linkin Park from Dead by Sunrise.
